BANKRUPTCY & DEBT RELIEF

ILLINOIS BANKRUPTCY & DEBT RELIEF

Illinois Foreclosure & Bankruptcy Options

Know the deadline. Understand the payment requirements. Make an informed decision.

If a sale is scheduled, lead with the date

Call promptly and bring the sale notice, complaint, and current loan statement. Relief depends on timing and circumstances. Do not assume that scheduling a consultation, applying for a modification, or preparing paperwork pauses a sale.

Consider the cost of keeping the property

Catching up on overdue payments and paying future installments are different obligations. Review both, including escrow, taxes, insurance, and association dues where applicable. A temporary interruption of collection is not a long-term affordability plan.

Questions to ask

  • What stage has the foreclosure reached?
  • How much is needed to address arrears?
  • Are ongoing payments affordable?
  • Have there been prior filings or modification attempts?
  • Are there other liens or jointly owned interests?

Learn how Chapter 13 repayment may fit into the discussion and use the consultation checklist to organize your records.
